i found only one in my whole forest (and picked half)
It is amazing and it was easy to identify
And it did taste delicious.
And for My dear Christopher and others who worry about me eating strange mushrooms. I do have to say i always do so with the book in the hand, when there is any suggestion that it could be mistaken with a very poisonous mushroom, i won't pick it.

The meadow mushroom for example still puzzles me... and if anybody can help me with a positive clue, like smell maybe, i will be grateful. Yesterday i found one such mushroom but it didn't smell like anything, so i didn't think it would be a meadow mushroom.

we here in the Yukon, are going wild about the mushrooms.
how i wish i was an expert, but there has never been a year like this that i know of.
The forest is truly magic


yum yum, i am eating now these two kinds, one i am almost sure is the Scaly tooth,and the other tasting super sweet......??? if you know let me know.
I know i should be careful eating unknown mushrooms, but this is all too tantalizing for me.

fortunate

I by no means do not waste I think there is a certain balance, which i have not reached yet.
And i am in the fortunate position, to go out in the woods and harvest, without fearing i am taking too much. Out here it is mainly, the forest, the wild animals etc and me the only human.
This morning in the soft rain, my husband home and warm in bed. I went out for breakfast. First to the raspberry patch and then into the forest for mushrooms.
I picked 'nutty delicious', the brown and orange boletes, corals again, and as it turned out two kind of polypores.
The polypores looked similar in the forest, but when cooked one turns bright yellow the other stayed white, they both tasted good.
The brown one is the bolete.

After sliding back into bed to wake my husband, i prepared breakfast. (he has been away a lot, hence the treatment:)
I had ample of mushrooms and put most of them in a freezer bag to freeze for winter use. (i do like to get away from using plastic bags, any suggestion are welcome. I find drying doesn't always keep the taste.)

hmmmm from an article in National Geographic i understand that we waste up to 50% of our food (Stockholm International Water Institute).

Now isn't it obvious, that if we could eliminate that waste, people in the food industry only had to work 20 hour weeks instead of 40 and that half of the land used for food production could be wilderness. (Here i am not talking about the fact that we could do something about world hunger.)

To me that means though if we want to accomplish that we DO have to pay twice as much for the food we buy, in order to keep the world economy going.

But now, if you are even remotely getting your income from the food sector. Wouldn't you like to work less for the same money?

And really as a lot of wasting is done at our own hands, we have to buy less food.

If you can follow what i am hinting on. (Let me know if it makes sense)

For me the real problem is, how do i pay twice as much for my bananas, knowing that nothing is wasted, and that people picking bananas still have an income?????

I ASK YOU, to look at this with me and really try to find an answer.

This all besides the fact that i still believe we live in a society based on slavery, we the slave drivers, paying the people at the bottom end barely enough to survive. Now how would you like to pick bananas 40 hours a week for minimum wages, knowing that half of those bananas lay rotting on someones counter? :)

Starting here, i hope to activate some sort of discussion were we come to real solutions. In the meantime i try not to waste any food.

a polypores. this kind; big white creamy globes on the forest floor.

It appears to be a good berry and mushroom year!
