Lewis' Mock Orange

Philadelphus lewisii

This beautiful  fragrant shrub was blooming along seven o'clock drive,  June 13 2023
I have more of the plants growing there posted in oct. nov. dec. 2021.

It is Idaho's state flower.
It is said to be good for bank stabilization.
The wood is very hard and used for making tools.
Also the leaves and flowers  are slightly soapy, so nice to wash your hands in a creek with.

We call this shrub summer jasmine, some people call it farmer's jasmine. It grows really tall and thick here and it always makes me think of strawberries because in my childhood garden, we were sent to pick the strawberries after school and there was a large philadelphus flowering next to my mother's strawberry patch. We would not dare to eat any of the berries while picking, they were delivered to my mother who then divided them up equally between five bowls for all of us as dessert after dinner.

I did not know that was the state flower. Learn something new every day.

Orange blossoms smell so nice. If mock orange smells like orange, it must be heavenly.

Summer jasmine, boeren jasmijn, Thanks Sabine, i too grew up with that bush, that is amazing. it did look strangely familiar, yet i had no idea what it was.
Yes, live and learn, and if the same, i do remember it's fragrance from childhood, which was lovely.
and gardens of waters east, yes! it says; since 1931. I too like these kind of facts.

Beautiful! We have P. microphyllus in WY and only barely, in southwest-most part. It's not nearly as showy as your jasmine.
