Friends of Yukon Snowboarding

The Snowboard Halfpipe finals of the Canada Winter Games will be shown on TSN2 (not the main TSN channel, but TSN 2) Thurs March 24 at 10:30 am. Team Yukon is proud of the strong team we have sent to Halifax for the games, and congratulations go out to all the athletes, coaches, parents and volunteers who have worked hard all year to contribute to the team's success.

There is a strong chance some of our riders will make the HP finals, so tune in and cheer them on from afar - or set your PVRs.

Thanks for your support!
Chris

Gwich'in Princess

regally
she calls the birds
who flock down at her feet
i part of her entourage
follow her
the animals;
emily, jack, silaene...
she protects them from danger
leaves notes in the snow
to warn for poisonous leaves
at the y in the path
she stretches her arms
'the spirits tell me where to go'
'this path is warmer'
Bull is one of her best friends
we cross his tracks
she caresses a fallen tree
'oh dear, you are the best in nature'
there's good spirits and bad
she erases a sign
'the one who kills was here'
The Gwich'in Princess she makes sure
he doesn't stay in her domain

where even dreams are not

when everything is clear
when clouds break open
and you reach the top
your heart is screaming
and fear is joy
and tears fall upon bare rock
i know to stand there in the cold
with only glory left
it's only down that we can go
let your heart be full
let something linger in your crevices
so we can feel the mountain
even if we're low
and we will know
the sky far greater
than our hopes and broken dreams here down below

for my love...

the summit

Things that are potentially dangerous and things that scare us.

reading spindrifts http://julianmizuki.blogspot.com/post i realized that we all have are own realtionships surrounding danger....

I went to his post to read about snakes, because my article in 'what's up yukon' was about a snake
http://www.whatsupyukon.com/index.php/component/content/article/226-january-27-2011/2712-intrepid-traveller-snake-for-supper.html

The photo here is the Skagway summit, coming back. Later today i will post photos of blue sky, looking the other way.
When i drove to Skagway there was a more total white out, it wasn't dangerous, because i could still see , on the right, right in front of my car, the plowed ridge on the side of the road.

this crazy life

While i was away, the elk came through my yard and dug my garden.
I feel quite frazzled as it is too. But am though like raspberry bushes and roses.
So i imagine the roses and berries to be quite content too having been grazed over by the Elk.
I have so much on the go lately, that i do feel happy but quite overwhelmed.
I did get published as a writer, but am waiting for my editor to say if i can make a link here. He first want you to be able to pick up a copy of the magazine before you read it here.
The magazine is What's up Yukon. It was amazing yesterday when i was skiing on mnt. Sima, how many people read the magazine, and had recognized m being in there.
So know i enjoy this bit of fame, i better keep writing and let the Elk do there thing.

And a little update on the feral horses, luckily the government didn't catch them all. I had a conversation Friday with a horsewoman. And she know too that the feral horses are better of in the wild, than they are being kept in a coral with all the water and food that the owner can give them. She even believes that the rate of survival is very high when they live in the wild.
And i know for a fact that they look healthier than the neighbour's horses.

Let us all roam free!
