Taos Mountain Balloon Rally

with love from Taos

back in October

i did connect the christmas lights in our outside christmas tree. Just now i turned them on, after a few days i finally got the woodstove hot enough where i feel comfortable, and dared to venture outside. There is a lovely moon, and i shoveled out some pathways through our deep snow.

For now i will look back at the end of October.
I will post my pictures of the Balloon Rally in Taos, which is where i went my first weekend in New Mexico. Beside the fact that my camera often didn't work, i also found that very often i did not take pictures, because there was so much to see! From Day one i was overwhelmed with the beauty of New Mexico.

to continue; The bus ride from Denver to Albuquerque is where i felt i was in a different world. It was packed, and i was lucky to find a seat, where as on the whole trip i would have at least two or four to myself, not this time. The bus was zooming with pleasant talk and laughter. And suddenly at around 10 pm or so, all went quiet, everybody settled in for the night.
So not having my four seats to stretch out, i was happy to arrive at two am.

Where Michael picked me up, and showed me Albuquerque in the dark. Ha! all i saw was traffic and city lights. Later on i will tell you my impression of the city, as i got to know it more intimately.

That very day we already left for the Taos, as i had an invitation to have Sabbath at the Lama Foundation in The mountains by Questa.

On the way up somewhere South of Santa Fe we stop at a canyon, the first one of many to come!
If i only would have seen that canyon and the desert leading up to it, i would have been impressed about New Mexico. I had really no idea before i came. Looking at photos is not the same as being in it. It is all very different from the Yukon (yaaaaah:).
so i climb the walls marvel about the vegetation, find some need rocks and bask in the heat!

In Santa Fe i dress up in a white summer dress and put on my high heels and visit a Gallery. So many places i have to go back to, because i do not recall much of Santa Fe except the wonderful art show i saw in ....( a short name... 'the site'? is that it?)

Not stopping in Taos we head for the mountains by Questa. We miss a turn on the mountain road and end up in Questa, people are very happy to direct us back. The sun is setting now, and i know we will be too late for the preceding dinner. The sunset is magnificent, the first of again many to come. Sunsets and sunrises in New Mexico are extra ordinair!
We park our car and walk in the dark on a narrow little path trying to find the buildings, the path little as it s leads us exactly where we want to be. The candlelight ceremony is already on it's way, but we quietly take seats and in a total quite way we are made very welcome, as the meditation continues and soft music plays.
Later we do introduction, what a beautiful people and a most beautiful place.
We camp outside haha, in our first freezing desert night. New Mexico can be cold!

The next day it's Taos, blue skies and balloons!

thank goodness for air

Taos
New Mexico
balloon rally

from now to the beginning

Now, i was just over at Haagje's and she asked ; what would you like?
Well i said i would like my husband to be happier. Really i would like that very very much. I have asked him that question often enough. And even if he had no answer, i would still try.
But over the years i've found that no matter what, i could not really make him happy.
Soooooo, i have learned to do what i would like.
darn, life is tough.
Soooooo i took the bus to New Mexico. The greyhound bus. I started my trip being on the bus for four days. It was cheap; from Whitehorse to Albuquerque round trip for just over 500 dollars.

I love Wyoming! I guess that was day three. Before that the sights were quite enjoyable too.
And i met some nice people. I do like travelling on the bus, the people on it are very varied, and of course there is always someone you knew already. I actually wonder if that is a Yukon thing, we are a small group and we all like to move, so where ever in the world you find yourself, there is bound to be a Yukoner. Where i would like to explore Wyoming (being on the bus, you just have to suffice with watching it go by) is around he hot springs of Thermopolis.

My most impressive people encounter was quite something and left me shaking for a few days. And i still don't know what to think of it. Maybe you can tell me.
Somewhere on a mountain pass in Montana, where there was no cellphone connection, there was a woman on the bus who apparently had stopped breathing. to this day i don't if she had or not. Anyway it turned out i was the only one on the bus with first aid. And i do feel now i should take that more seriously, because as i was walking over to her, i had - no idea- what i was supposed to be doing. There was actually only one thing i knew; -nobody was going to die on that bus that night- and not as in a higher knowing, but more like; not when i am on this bus, because i could not deal with that. So as i walk toward her, i say some lines that are drilled into us on the course, and her face slightly responds, so i say , she is breathing! i feel her heartbeat and was happy that i could actually feel it, in training i have a hard time finding even my own pulse. So i did put her in the recovery position, i think that was the right thing to do, because she had been throwing up. To this day i feel kind of bad that i know so little of what i am supposed to know having a certificate. But still, the little things i did know where enough for that moment, thank God. As this was happening cellphones started working again and in a half hour or so (in which she was able to sit up and talk, the ambulance was there, and took her.( thank goodness for the volunteer ambulance service!)
"hey! and whoever you were! How are you doing? I hope you are okay."

i'm back!

Mom!
I gained 5 pounds over the holidays !
of course 'The' holidays didn't start yet, i am not quite ready for those.
This morning for the first time i actually dared to look at the snow outside. It's is rather interesting how somewhere in the desert i lost my love of winter and the festivities it brings.
But i gained something. And my mom will be very happy with that. I have been the same weight for 20 years. (and like most of us too skinny according to our moms)
It must have been all the mole i ate. Mol-lay is chocolate sauce, i do not know why i had never heard of it, it is delicious.
I will do another post about all the good food i ate, but for now i just wanted to show you how rounded i looked, i would have posted me beside an ocotillo, but couldn't find a photo. The ocotillo is the skinniest cactus, although it is not a cactus.
First you have me beside a cholla and the other you probably know is a famous saguaro. The little dress, i bought in Bisbee, which is a lovely town in Arizona.
As i am not quite ready for snow, i will be happy to do a lot of posts about my trip.
Anyway i am happy to be blogging again
....although i was very happy living in the wilderness of New Mexico and Arizona. A wilderness it is, one quite different than i expected....i hate to say it... but for now i am still quite in love with all the dreamscapes i was privileged to dwell in for a while.

Arizona

Hi!
Here somewhere in a barren piece of land in between Tuscon and Phoenix.
It's all surreal,
kilometers are sometimes miles,
going West, we ended up East,
Close to cities with millions of people,
we found this camping spot, where it seemed nobody had ever been,
the only occupants, litlle desert dwellers that burrow holes around the more dead then alive creosote bushes.
Tomorrow i will fly from here to Vancouver, and will be home again the 8th of December.

Hi again, a week later. I am not at a computer very often. and when i am it's not at my own, so i find it hard to look through my pictures and see what i am actually posting.

New Mexico is totally beautiful!!!

So this is just a picture of a hoodoo on tribal land beside the White Mesa, beside the Ojito wilderness area, I don't know if i got that last place right. It's an hour driving out of Albuquerque. Haha i forgot which way.

It is all very overwhelming. So many wild places indeed, places i have never imagined before.
